Diversity & Rainbows!

Our school character trait for the month of January was diversity. We did many things throughout the month that revolved around diversity, however when I saw this project from Becky, I knew we would have to do it! It fit in perfectly to our discussions on diversity and was a great lead-in for black history month!
I bought a pack of the people colors jumbo pencils so that my students would be able to use realistic skin colors. They had to pick two lighter skin colors and two darker skin colors to color themselves. They also had to use realistic hair colors (shades of brown, blond, black, yellow, & red).
Here’s mine:
And a few of my students:
I took pictures of each of my students in front of a plain background and then uploaded them to the free website Be Funky that Becky recommended! It was super easy and didn’t take me nearly as long as I thought it would!
You can check out Becky’s post for more details on how to create the pictures and to see how her kiddos’ pictures turned out!

And while everyone else was stuck in lots of snow a week ago, we were dealing with some weather of our own… a little rain in southern California 馃檪
So, I thought it would be a great opportunity to update our chalkboard with a new little quote! One of my wonderfully talented students designed and did this all on his own… all I gave him was the quote!
I told him I think I’m going to be creating a new classroom job just for him to do our chalkboard quotes!
