Pencil Shoe Tutorial: A Guide to Painting Your Own Shoes

A few years ago I bought some paint and cheap shoes and painted one of my favorite pairs of school footwear… pencil shoes! I thought I’d do a quick post today to share how I made them. I absolutely love these shoes and they were super simple to make! Plus, my students love when I wear them! I’ve included a few affiliate links聽to help you find some of the supplies I used!

Instructions:

I made these shoes a couple years ago, and as much as I wish I took step-by-step pictures, I didn’t. So instead I’ll explain the steps as I did them! I stared by painting the yellow portion of the shoe and letting it dry. I didn’t paint all the way to the ends of the shoe, because I knew I’d be painting over them聽with the other colors. Next I painted the pink “eraser” part of the shoe and then the front “wood” part. After those dried I painted the silver details on the back and the black “lead” toe in the front! I used聽a couple coats of paint on each color and let it dry completely before moving on to the next part.

Painting the pencil shoes was even easier than I thought it would be! I’m hoping to paint some school mascot shoes this summer for next year!
